La Villa Duchesse Anne
This villa, with its small-castle appearance, is inseparable from the Brévinois coastline. A stroll through the Pines district is enough to spot its distinctive silhouette.
The Duchess Anne Villa was commissioned by Georges Barreau, a famous sculptor born in Paimboeuf.
He wanted a manor facing the ocean for the sea-bathing season, and it was built between 1911 and 1913.
Its round tower topped with a pepper-pot roof (recently rebuilt after being destroyed by German forces) is characteristic of the Neo-Gothic style popular in the early 20th century, strongly recalling the influence of Viollet-le-Duc.
A passionate defender of Brittany, Georges Barreau chose to depict Anne of Brittany on the beautifully carved fireplace, and her coat of arms on the interior stained-glass windows.
The Duchess Anne Villa is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful on the Jade Coast.
